May 29, 2026

Dear Pleasantville Community,

As we move toward the close of another school year, our schools remain filled with activity, celebration, reflection, and preparation for the future. From recognizing the accomplishments of students and staff to continuing important work related to safety and long-term facilities planning, this is an exciting and meaningful time across the District.

District Safety Team Meeting
One area that continues to remain a top priority is student and staff safety. On May 27, the District Safety Team held its annual review of districtwide and building-level safety plans.

Topics discussed included the successful integration of professional greeters, AED/cardiac arrest regulation compliance, and crowd management procedures.  The team reviewed the capital project safety enhancements such as Bedford Road School playground security improvements, athletic field fencing and netting, and districtwide public address and automatic lockdown system upgrades.

Updated safety plans will be posted for public comment and finalized prior to the start of the 2026-27 school year.

Capital Project Thank You & Update
As we continue planning for the future of our schools, I also want to once again thank the Pleasantville community for its support of the 2026-27 school budget and capital project propositions.

The Community Facilities Committee will hold its first post-vote meeting on Monday, June 1 to discuss project timing and next steps, including reorganizing the committee into smaller subcommittee groups aligned with the different aspects of the capital project.

High-Level Project Timeline & Next Steps

  • May 2026: Design phase begins

  • June 2027: Construction begins on priority infrastructure and safety projects

  • March 2028: Fields and lighting construction begins

  • June 2028: Bedford Road School outdoor space and STEAM-related construction begins

  • June 2030: Project borrowing begins, aligned with expiring debt obligations

Celebrating Retirees & Leadership Transitions
This season also provides an opportunity to recognize and thank the individuals who help make Pleasantville such a special place to learn and work. During the May 5 Board of Education meeting, the District proudly celebrated this year’s tenure recipients and retirees. Photos from the May 5 celebration are available on the District’s social media pages (Click here for Instagram and Facebook).

Among this year’s retirees is Assistant Superintendent for Business John Chow, whose leadership, professionalism, and dedication to the District have been deeply appreciated. We thank John for his many contributions to the Pleasantville school community and wish him all the best in his retirement.

Following his retirement, Mr. Chow will continue to support the District in a consulting capacity during the 2026-27 school year to help ensure continuity during the leadership transition.

The Board of Education previously appointed Donna Vitucci as the District’s next Business Administrator in September 2025. Donna, who currently serves as District Clerk and Secretary to the Superintendent, brings a strong background in accounting and has worked closely alongside Mr. Chow throughout this school year.

Additionally, Robyn Dunn will join the District on June 8 as the new District Clerk and Secretary to the Superintendent. Robyn comes to Pleasantville from the Tuckahoe Union Free School District and will work alongside Donna during the transition process.

We look forward to working with Donna in her new role, welcoming Robyn to Pleasantville, and thanking John once again for his years of dedicated service.
