Superintendent's Message
A Message from the Superintendent
Welcome to the Pleasantville Union Free School District!
Whether you are a longtime member of our community or are just getting to know us, I am glad you are here. Pleasantville is a special place to learn and to grow. Ours is a walkable, close-knit district where neighbors know one another, educators know their students by name, and families are true partners in the life of our schools. That sense of connection is not incidental to what we do; it is central to it. It is what allows a teacher to notice when a student is ready for a new challenge, what allows a coach or a club advisor to help a student discover an unexpected passion, and what allows our schools to feel less like institutions and more like an extension of home.
Our mission guides everything we do:
The mission of Pleasantville Union Free School District, the pathway to unique opportunities inspired by valued traditions, is to empower all students to thrive as lifelong learners, dynamic thinkers, and compassionate, contributing citizens through a learning community distinguished by: rich, differentiated academic programs in which depth of understanding, creativity and critical reasoning flourish; a safe, supportive environment of respect and collaboration; exploration of individual passions and celebration of accomplishments; leadership and service.
Every program, every classroom, and every initiative in our district is built with this mission in mind. We are committed to academic excellence, but just as committed to ensuring that every student is known, supported, and encouraged to find and pursue what they love. Our size is our strength: it allows us to personalize learning in ways that larger districts often cannot, and it allows our students to grow into leaders who feel a genuine responsibility to serve others.
None of this happens without an engaged community, and we want you to feel connected to what is happening in our schools every day. To stay current with district news, school events, and important announcements, we encourage all parents, guardians, and community members to join us on the ParentSquare app. It is our primary tool for communication and a great way to feel connected to daily life in our schools.
Thank you for being part of the Pleasantville community. I look forward to all that we will accomplish together.
Sincerely,
Dr. Eric Lutinski
Interim Superintendent of Schools
Pleasantville Union Free School District
