Overview & Contact Information

Special Education

The Special Education Department oversees the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) and the building-level Committees on Special Education (CSE), ongoing committees appointed by the Board of Education to assist children with disabilities. The Special Education Department also oversees English as a New Language (ENL) support services within the district.

The Pleasantville Union Free School District is committed to educating students with disabilities within its own schools, whenever appropriate. The Committee on Special Education and the Committee on Preschool Special Education recommend programs and/or services that provide a free and appropriate public education based on the individual learning needs of the student. All school-aged students with disabilities are provided the opportunity to participate in the curricular and extracurricular programs of the district.

The Pleasantville Union Free School District offers a continuum of Special Education programs that provide a free and appropriate public education, as deemed appropriate by the Committee on Special Education or Committee on Preschool Special Education. District policy allows us to discuss specific programming during an official CSE or CPSE meeting once a student is a resident of Pleasantville. At that time, discussion regarding specific Special Education programming and services may begin.
